Have you ever considered the idea that there is an art to engaging the visitors to your site? At Urban Interact, their tag line is *ATTRACT * ENGAGE * CONVERT * REPEAT. In the previous two interviews we discussed the seven laws of attraction for online marketing and this, my third interview with Beverly Garvin, CEO of Urban Interact, we focus on the art of engagement.

At Urban Interact they mainly focus on ‘inbound marketing’ as opposed to traditional marketing campaigns such as direct mail campaigns, magazine articles, radio and television advertising. Because of the nature of how people consume these types of media, the use of them as an advertising medium has become less and less effective.  Beverly encourages her clients to use methods that are a little more permission based, a little more personal. With this strategy, elbow grease, time and resources are required more than the pocket book.

The art of engagement includes all of the communications that take place from the time that person comes to your website to the time they actually make a purchase and it can also include some after sale engagement. Engagement also has a spinoff effect. How well you engage your customers and the thought that you put into that process can make or break the successfulness of a campaign.

Beverly describes the balancing act between a good idea and how well it is executed.  She draws some interesting parallels to either the engagement of a couple with intentions of being married, or an employment contract. Just consider how you present yourself on your first date. She talks about how you can make the best first impression with the visitors to your site. Essentially she describes how you can engage visitors from the start and have them returning for more and ultimately becoming long term customers.

Beverly has a wealth of examples of how you can engage your customers, from pre-sale to after-sale and how to convert visitors who will be enthusiastic enough about your company so that they will tell someone else about it.

This interview takes about a half hour. I think it will be well spent, especially if you take action oon some of the great advice Beverly has to offer.
